{ Update}  The wide listing pages is now live for all to see! Check your shop!    Original post 9-29-10

Along with the wider shop view, Etsy just announced that each listing page will soon have a new wider look!    You can check out a preview HERE.  I think it looks awesome… more focus on the product!

sean11 from Etsy says:

You’ll notice:

- Big, beautiful images — 570 pixels wide by default. If an image is smaller than 570 pixels wide, it will not be stretched. It will be displayed in the same 570-pixel-wide area. We recommend uploading photos that are between 800 and 1000 pixels wide; more information here: http://help.etsy.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/208

- A clean new look for all the information below the item description: shipping details, payment methods, links to contact the shop owner and review shop policies, and tags and materials.

- A new Favorites button, next to a big new Add to Cart button. Go ahead, click them (you know you want to!).

- A larger area for additional items from the shop, with a count of the number of items available in the shop.

  1. Like it!! Just wondering why they left the navigation on the right side of the page when it’s on the left of the shop page?? hmmm But I do like the bigger picture!

  2. I wish too that they would put the shop policies link under the avatar where the others are instead of just at the bottom of the page.

  3. the new shop pages look ok in your thumbnail, but on the website itself really cause a big problem. 1) the photos, if not 570px wide already, look EXTREMELY blurry, 2) if your photo is larger than 420px tall, you have to actually scroll just to see the full photo, let alone any text that might pertain to the listing!! 3) thumbnails from the other photos in the listings are even smaller than before, thus sort of rendering them useless.
really frustrated with this new look and can’t believe what i’m seeing…it just doesn’t look finished. how many products are on Etsy? Over SIX MILLION as of last month? How many of those will need new photos? I know my 160+ listings will…

  4. I love the bigger default on pics. Thanks for the new uploading suggestion. I’ve normally sent mine as 640px but I’ll increase it.

Sounds like you’ve all been drinking a lot of java, planning lots of good changes for us. Thank you for all the hard work – and especially, for communicating it to us. I’ll spread the buzz.

  5. I like it, but do you know why they removed the “Sold” items?

  7. ok i did like it until i saw this

now my taller images are TOO big… it just doesn’t look right and im put off by my own listing… how will that seem to buyers?

this will be awful for photographers, artists, people will tall images, people with low MP images… especially if they have hundreds of existing items they need to change

also for photographers that generally submit a smaller version of their work (if they don’t watermark as I do) to prevent copying this will cause a problem

I don’t think Etsy have thought enough about these problems

  8. Someone in the thread you link to made this layout and I think it’s fantastic for unifying your shopfront and your items:

It’s also quite beautiful and makes the most use out of the wider format.

  10. Very nice! You can see detail that you couldn’t see before.

  11. At first, I thought WOW!!! But now I am not so sure. I think it is overwhelmingly large and it makes it hard to navigate the page. Plus, are we selling jewelry for giants? People take nice closeups of their jewelry and the HUGE picture is misleading. I think they could find a happy middle and put the navigation back where it was for continuity.

    I give this a C-

  12. I like the wider format. Same issues with the policies link and right side navigation instead of left. But all in all it’s a good improvement!
