How To Exploit Hot Men and Sell Crochet on Etsy

When we hear the term “sex sells” the image that comes to mind is usually of a sexy woman posed provocatively with a well-placed product. However, women make up a large percentage of the buying public so selling sex to them can also mean dressing up a product with a man. This especially makes sense when trying to market crochet products on Etsy where the buyers are more than likely going to be women. Sure, there are men who create, buy and wear crochet, but it’s still mostly a female thang …

So ladies, let’s enjoy the eye candy of an Etsy treasury filled with hot guys wearing crochet. Then we’ll get in touch with our business savvy and take a closer look at how five great crocheters are using hot men to boost attention to their products on the site.

Five Smart Women Who Sell Sex Crochet

 1.     Rebecca Bessette of BessetteArt. Rebecca is an impressive artist and you can see this is in the great visual displays she does of her crochet work that she sells on Etsy. She sells items for both men and women and the photos always do a great job of looking alluring, highlighting the crochet detail against a great nature-inspired background. As a gal what draws me in are the pictures of her men’s stuff because her hot male model has piercing eyes that just insist that you come see what the store has to offer. Smart draw since I’d then be inclined to buy the crochet stuff she makes for women. Incidentally one of her photos was my number one pick for an article showing 10 Hot Guys Sporting Crochet Cowls.

2.     Marion of MGB Designs. The natural colors of the crochet accessories in this shop are appealing but it’s the photos of the people wearing them that attract your attention initially. This seller does a great job of combining shots of women alone, men alone and couples together to appeal to a diverse group of people in trying to sell her mostly unisex crochet designs. Everyone can find someone here that they want to be or want to be with and that makes them want to buy.

3.      Joyful Gabby. This smart seller makes great use of props to increase the attractiveness of her already adorable models. For example, she shows of her fingerless gloves for men on a guy playing the guitar. Instant sex appeal and that can lead to sales appeal.

4.     TheAlligatorFactory. This shop currently only has one photo of a hot guy in crochet but it’s done so well that it makes the rest of the store infinitely more interesting to look at. First of all, the photography is great. Second, the guy is cute. And finally, the item is so wacky and wonderful that you can’t help but feel like the guy is approachable.

5.     Melissa of Good Marvin. A smart approach to attractive the female gaze is to use a variety of different types of photos to draw in various shoppers. You’ll find crochet-wearing guys here that range from the family-loving dude holding a baby to the make-you-laugh goof with a faux moustache.

Starting to feel sexy? Starting to feel like shopping? This is definitely a tool that crafters can use to appeal to a buying female market.
