How to Make Your Etsy Shop Visually Appealing

My MegansBeadedDesigns Etsy shop is pretty eclectic looking, even though its a shop of all beadwoven items. When items are listed by the “Most Recent” default setting, things can look a tad on the messy side. Not every Etsy shop has this problem. In fact, I don’t worry much about it with my Glamour365 shop or my MegansCreativeDesign shop. Their pictures go well enough together without having to be remodeled. However, if your shop is anything like my MegansBeadedDesigns shop, then you too may benefit from a little color coordination.
BEFORE:
Yikes. Kinda scary looking right? Wayyyyy too many colors together like that makes an on-looker’s eyes jump all over the place, unsure of what to rest on.
Because of my multitudes of colors, I opted to organize my shop not by item type, but hue. All I had to do was go to Your Shop > Options (under the Shop Settings menu) > Rearrange your Shop (Select “Enabled”). After the setting has been changed, I can click on “Rearrange my Shop” from my shop homepage, dragging and dropping items wherever I please. It’s pretty magical, really.
AFTER:
Ahhhhhhhhhh. MUCH better! From here I can feature my top 4 items as a theme, or simply of a different color combination than what shows on my first page of items. This way, I am constantly bringing up certain items right to the front without having to completely rearrange my color combinations every few days. The only annoying thing about rearranging your shop to a customized display is that you will have to RE-rearrange an item every time to renew it, because it will appear right at the front each time. A little annoyance I’m willing to put up with, however, for such a cleaner-looking storefront!

This is a fabulous idea. My mixed media shop……well, it is mixed and busy…….. and it bothers my eyes so I can only imagine the effect on potential customers. I have to try this! Thank you!

I just recently did this. I have so much inventory it’s a bit overwhelming. I have 2.5 pages completed. Do you think it is necessary to every page of your shop?
I do every page, but I think first first page is the most important, as it is the first page your customers are going to see.
Very clever idea and elegant solution! I always wonder how many buyers look at my shop page and if I should obsess over it as much as I do?
You can always check your Shop Stats to see how many people are entering in your storefront. You want to make a good first impression with all of them!

Very true! I also imagine it makes it easier for treasury makers to find items of a specific color within a shop!
I try to organize my first page, but have never taken the time to do the remaining pages. Will give that a try!

I love this idea! I’ve also grouped items by pattern/fabric before since many of my items are different styles made of the same fabric. It makes such a huge difference when the eye isn’t bouncing around the page so much!
Exactly! And the more pleasant the visuals, the longer the eyes will linger on your items!

A few years ago I did this with my shop. Since I have stained glass the colors were all over the place. Not now. The only thing you have to remember is to re-organize after renewing or adding new items.
Exactly Angela. Having to reorder an item after renewing it is the largest pain, but for me, i think it’s worth it.

This is genius! I’ve been silently sulking for months now thinking Etsy was silly not to allow us to arrange our store as we wish. Turns out I was the silly one!!
I just re-shot all the lead photos of all my book clutches and book purses from one of two angles, and then arranged them loosely by color, and then style– and WOW what a difference!! I’m so pleased.
