Growing up, never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would make a living by selling what I love to make. Actually, not until my mid-twenties did I know that I was even capable of making anything. I started selling my handmade metal art, furniture, and jewelry trees on Etsy in 2007. Within the first year and a half of selling online, I was able to quit my full time job and pursue my newly found passion! Along the way, I found that artists and creative business owners needed a place to learn how to successfully run an online business, and that is why I started Handmadeology.
This past weekend, my wife, Christina and I got to meet Monica Potter. You may know her as Kristina Braverman from the popular NBC show, Parenthood. My wife is obsessed with this show and Monica Potter is her favorite actress, so meeting her at the Cleveland IX Center Christmas Connection was a dream come true! Aside from Monica being an award-winning actress, there’s another thing that makes her awesome. She has a passion for creating and has always wanted to give people jobs. Monica grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, about an hour from where my wife & I grew up, and she just launched a new company, Monica Potter Home, that is employing Ohio artisans. How amazing is that? Right now, all her products are available online, but in 2015, she is opening a brick and mortar store in Garrettsville, Ohio, that will employ even more local people.
Check out the video below all about her company!
My wife and I did a little Christmas shopping while we visited the Monica Potter Home booth at the IX Center Christmas Connection.
Make sure you do some holiday shopping while you’re visiting Monica Potter Home!
Thank you, Monica, for supporting local artisans, and investing in the great state of Ohio!
