When I stumbled upon Tophatter about a few months ago I knew it had potential to really grow in to a powerful selling venue for artists. I am starting a new series here on Handmadeology called ” Successful Etsy Sellers Finding Success on Tophatter”. I have found some successful Etsy sellers that are successfully selling their handmade goods on Tophatter, and interviewed them! They will be sharing their insider secrets and tips on what they love about about Tophatter, and tips for new seller looking to start selling.

Q. Tell us a bit about your Etsy shop and the items you make.
A. I started selling on Etsy about 3 years ago when I decided to become a stay at home mom. I wanted my shop to be affordable to all age groups and started looking into ways to make my jewelry more ‘wallet friendly’. The biggest ‘theme’ to my shop is definitely birds. I make wire wrapped bird’s nest jewelry as well as pendants and charms with bird’s nests incorporated into them. I try to make all my pieces fun and whimsical.
Q. How long have you sold on Tophatter?
A. I have sold on Tophatter for almost 2 months – I started selling at the beginning of March.
Q. How exciting is to see your products being bid on in a live setting?
A. It’s definitely thrilling to see my items up for auction on Tophatter. I love the comments I get from people in the chat when my item is up for bids as well as the excitement when there is a good bidding war!
Q. What do you like best about selling on Tophatter?
A. The best part of Tophatter is the positive environment. Everyone is so welcoming to newbies and very helpful. The admins are great and there are so many people willing to help you through the selling process.
Q. Do you have any tips for Etsy sellers just starting out on Tophatter?
A. The best tip for selling on Tophatter is to take GREAT pictures! Just as important as it is on Etsy to have good pictures of your product – Tophatter is no different. And if at all possible, try to be present when your item is up for auction for anyone who has questions. This really makes a difference.
Q. Any other info or tips new sellers should know?
A. One of the best things about Tophatter is that you can have your Etsy shop name next to your username. That way, when you are chatting or your item is up for auction, people know you are a credible seller and its free advertising for your Etsy shop.
