  1. WOW! I guess I should stop making jewelry and sell beads & supplies!

  2. I am proud NOT to be on this list!

  3. I counted only 26 shops not selling jewelry findings and beads and even some of those had some form of jewelry supply and only 12 shops making their own products.

  4. I would be interested in knowing which were the top selling stores in the ‘handmade’ category. It seems that a lot of these are craft supply businesses.
    Cheers.

  5. Sorry, but ETSY started to be a supplier web page, soon we will not have there place for artists!

    It is really sad.

    Greetings for “old” etsy sellers.

  6. I agree with all the other commenters. I thought etsy was supposed to be a site for HANDMADE items. I only looked at the top 10 and they were all selling basically the same things – beads and jewelry making stuff of some sort. Who the hell is buying that much jewelry making supplies?

Not a very encouraging report for those (few) of us actually making things.

  7. I agree with every opinion above…this is getting ridiculous, really! I sell ALL HAND-MADE and sales are ok (I won’t quit my day job!) but nothing like what the jewelry suppliers experience! In convo’s with some other hand-made shop owners (minus those who sell jewelry) – they have the same complaints (and worries) that too many potential customers out there are turning to other websites for true home-made. One of my customers stated that it was like shopping at Walmart!

Yeah, some rules should be changed here on what is acceptable to sell for a self proclaimed hand-made site like Etsy. But bottom line here is the $.

  8. This is a disappointing reflection for us dedicated artists & crafters of actual handmade work. It is easy to be a top seller when you are selling 1000′s of small items, many of which are mass produced in a far away land where faceless workers are underpaid & exploited. I am happy to say that I am not a part of this chain & know there are still discerning buyers on Etsy who know & appreciate true handmade work, they are not fooled trust me.

  9. But these are almost all supplies and little bits!

  10. This makes me sad, here I thought is was my product that wasn’t drawing much interest. I seem to be hitting a wall at every turn. The light bulb is on, people aren’t shopping for product on Esty. Where do I go from here, Artfire?
