Etsy Phases Out Internet Explorer 6 Support

Down With This Sort of Browser

– Why are we phasing out Internet Explorer 6? –

IE 6 was released in August of 2001, nearly a decade ago. It is a last-generation browser with limited capabilities. Supporting IE6 means fewer new features, less frequent updates, and a limited user experience. Our goal is to create the best experience we can possibly create on Etsy for as many people as possible. In order to do that, and make a responsible use of our time and resources, we’re phasing out support of IE 6.

– What can I do to prepare for the phase out? –

The best way to prepare is to upgrade your browser to one of the modern browsers recommended above.

You can always refer to our FAQ about which web browsers work best with Etsy:

– What if I don’t upgrade my browser? Will I still be able to use Etsy.com? –

In the short-term, yes. No one using IE 6 will be prevented from using Etsy.com; we won’t be doing anything to intentionally prevent IE 6 from working. However, we can’t guarantee that changes or new features added to Etsy.com after October 1st, 2010 will work in IE 6.
