  2. I love Lisa’s Shop Fundamentals! I’ve skimmed through the book once and already have changed my whole attitude about sharing my jewelry with other people. Now I’ve printed out the wookbook and I’m working on worksheet 1. Lisa’s guide forces you to slow down and pay attention to the details and strategy that are so easy to skim over.   4. Lisa, you wrote, “There’s no system in place to encourage regular, repeat business.”

    Perhaps there’s no system in place because Etsy forbids us from contacting past customers after the sale transaction has been completed. Or at least that’s been my understanding for the entire 6 years I’ve had an Etsy shop. If this has changed, please let me know!

    I have a mailing list which I’ve built over the last 7 years at craft fairs and from eBay customers. I do send emails out to those folks once in awhile, although I’m hesitant to send more than 1 or 2 emails to them per month because I don’t want it to feel like spam.

    • Hi Tana,
      You can absolutely encourage repeat business with your Etsy customers. In my opinion, Etsy should be MUCH more supportive of sellers doing so because that’s how a creative business is built.

      Here’s a thread where I discuss working your email sign-up form into several places on your Etsy storefront (for example, announcement, profile, and thank-you emails should contain links to your sign-up page).

      Companies like Meylah include a sign-up link right on your storefront because they know building an email list is critical to your success.

      I discuss many ways to encourage regular, repeat business with your customer, but mailing lists are PRIORITY #1. Thanks for your question.
