I create because it is a necessary part of my life like eating and breathing. I really think I would wither and die if I couldn’t create.
I am a writer and photographer at my day job which I love, but it’s such a joy to be able to come home at night and make something new. It relieves the stress of the day to let my “inner child” come out and play! It feels so good to mush my clay and mix colors and shape something for fun. I never know what’s going to come out and I am delighted with the wonderful surprises.
I grew up with an artistic mom and cousins. We were always making things, and it’s been gratifying my whole life to create handmade gifts and cards. People are so touched and appreciative when you have taken the time to make something beautiful and unique for them instead of buying it at a store.
I also have found it gratifying to grow, improve and evolve over time. My close friends tell me there is a world of difference between what I made when I started working with clay and what I make now. I am grateful for others’ encouragement and their delight in wearing what I make. I never dreamed of the happiness I would find in working with clay, and am grateful every day for the gifts I have received.
